Elenberg Fraser, Gurner™ and Jack Merlo have collaborated on several projects, including this place-making West Melbourne development. Named Ikebana, both the architecture and the landscape create a sense of tranquillity on the edge of the city. The Japanese aesthetic of the interior design was brought outside at the ground level, with Japanese maples and bamboo in the private courtyards.
Within its inner-urban setting, most of the landscape architecture was created for the rooftop spaces through a series of common areas residents could enjoy away from the world below in privacy and with prized city views. One space featured an Teppanyaki bar and outdoor lounge, while the other more opulent space included two secluded spa zones and an entertaining area.
